A regulated Australian organisation is building its responsible AI function and needs a Governance Manager to own the frameworks, risk and controls that let the business adopt AI safely and fast. This is the role that lets everyone else move quickly without getting the company in trouble.
The organisation is serious about AI adoption and equally serious about doing it defensibly. You will build the governance machinery from close to a standing start: the policies, the risk register, the model inventory and the review gates, all designed so delivery teams treat them as an enabler rather than a handbrake.
What you will do
- Own the AI governance framework: policy, risk assessment, model inventory and controls
- Operationalise responsible AI principles into the delivery lifecycle
- Partner with legal, security and data teams on regulation, including the Privacy Act and emerging AI rules
- Run the AI risk register and the review gates for new AI use cases
- Make governance an enabler of speed, not a handbrake on it
What you bring
- A background in data governance, risk, privacy or compliance with genuine AI exposure
- A working knowledge of the Australian regulatory landscape and where AI rules are heading
- The ability to translate principles into practical controls engineers will actually follow
- A calm, credible presence and the judgement to say no to the right things
Why this role
Define how a serious organisation does AI responsibly, with executive backing from day one. Governance hires made this early set the template every later AI initiative runs on, which makes this one of the most consequential risk roles in the market.
